Overseas media Euronews introduced the case of Croatian companies that used big data to predict and prepare for floods.

Croatian company GDi Group noted a case in which more than 60 people were killed in flood damage in southern and eastern European countries eight years ago. Accordingly, we developed ‘GDi Ensemble FloodSmart’, an integrated platform that provides real-time flood information to improve disaster risk prediction and preparedness capabilities including flooding.

GDi Ensemble FloodSmart is a flood prevention tool that collects all relevant information on a single web portal to help ordinary citizens and decision-makers access the information.

Regardless of the type of web browser, it helps access the results of analysis by collecting data from various sources. After data analysis, an interactive flood risk map is created based on the current or predicted disaster risk, helping to easily understand the risk.

In addition to flood risk prediction information, it also provides resources to help citizens respond to and communicate efficiently. In addition, due to flooding, high performance is maintained even when many users access the system.

Based on big data analysis in Sarajevo, Project Development Chief Davorin Singer explained how to create flood preparedness plans and 3D modeling and how to help citizens, institutions and rescue authorities.

He said, “We collect data from hydrologists on flood flow predictions and dangerous areas, and provide them for those with decision-making authority to see. We help you choose countermeasures that can minimize the risk and reduce the damage caused by floods in each situation.”
