With Netflix releasing an “advertisement plan” that lowered fares instead of including advertisements starting next month, KT-affiliated Nasmedia has been decided as a domestic advertising sales agency.

According to industries on the 17th, Nasmedia has been confirmed to be exclusively responsible for Netflix’s domestic advertising sales. As a result, NAS Media will collaborate as an advertising partner for Netflix following Microsoft (MS). An industry official said, “MS is Netflix’s global advertising sales partner and oversees Netflix’s global advertising work,” adding, “MS has decided on domestic partners.”

Although the unit price and method of advertising sales have not been confirmed, it is known that there are two methods: 15 seconds and 30 seconds in the form of free roll (start) or mid roll (middle). In principle, the advertisement provides exposure centered on award-winning content (popular content) and does not transmit competitor advertisements in the same advertisement item.

However, mid-rolls are applied only to series except for movies, and advertisements cannot be “skip.” Advertising costs are CPM (cost per 1,000 exposures), and the unit price is known to be around 87,500 won. In addition, for “Top 10” contents, an additional 40% will be added.

On the 14th, Netflix announced that it will release an advertising plan of 5,500 won per month in Korea from the 4th of next month. Considering that Netflix’s current price in Korea starts at 9,500 won (Basic), it is half the price.

Instead of being cheap, the advertising plan requires an average of four to five minutes per hour to watch the advertisement. A 15-second or 30-second-long advertisement is exposed before and in the middle of the content. In addition, the advertising plan supports only 720p (HD) resolution, and content download services are not available. Some movies and series are also restricted by licensing restrictions. The number of concurrent users is one person, the same as the existing basic plan.

The plan will be released in 12 countries including Korea, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, Japan, and Brazil.
